American Medical Women's Association (AMWA)
The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is a professional organization founded in 1915 to advocate for women in medicine and promote women’s health. With around 10,000 members, AMWA focuses on education, advocacy, and leadership development for female physicians and medical students across the United States. AMWA champions policies for gender equity in medicine and offers various initiatives, including the Reproductive Health Initiative, which enhances training in family planning and abortion care. The organization also provides medical relief through the American Women’s Hospital Service, addressing healthcare needs in underserved regions. AMWA collaborates with the American Medical Association to increase female representation in medical leadership and works on research initiatives to tackle disparities in sex- and gender-specific healthcare. AMWA serves female physicians, medical students, and residents by offering mentorship, networking, and career advancement opportunities. It plays a vital role in promoting gender-inclusive policies and advancing women’s health research.
