Breathworks
Breathworks is a UK based Charity and leading international mindfulness organisation co-founded by Vidyamala Burch. Born out of Vidyamala's personal journey who first injured her spine at 17 years old and learned to meditate in 1985. She started teaching mindfulness and meditation to people living with pain, illness and stress out of a desire to share what she had learned with others. Vidyamala is now an experienced mindfulness, compassion and meditation teacher and internationally known author of Living Well with Pain and Illness, BMA Award winning Mindfulness for Health and her latest book Mindfulness for Women in 2016. We are one of the largest and most well known mindfulness and compassion teacher training organisations with over 650 teachers in 35 countries. Our training programme is highly regarded for its quality of teaching, integrity, robustness and the significant benefits for workforces and individuals alike. We provide specialist programmes for corporate businesses, public service organisations as well as health, education and social care professionals wishing to incorporate mindfulness into their workplaces. Breathworks programmes and products are a development of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and founded on practice-based research. Our research on the clinical benefits of mindfulness revealed that across all scales measured (mood, pain experience, quality of life and confidence in activity despite pain), the Breathworks approach showed statistically and clinically significant improvement. In 2016 we were awarded the Social Value Quality Mark demonstrating for 'Every £1 invested in Breathworks programmes produces savings of at least £5.76 in reduced costs to health and other public service needs, employer costs, increased community contributions, increased productivity and creativity.
