CU InSpace
CU InSpace is an engineering competition team that designs and manufactures high powered rockets. The team is comprised of undergraduate students that have a passion for rockets and design. In 2017 the team competed successfully against 120 international teams at the Spaceport America Cup in New Mexico. We were one of 63 that successfully managed to launch our rocket. It is also noteworthy to state that we were one of 25 selected to present for our research and development of alternative low weight and cost structure, where we discussed our decision to prioritize weight savings and drastically reduce the cost all while manufacturing a structure sufficiently strong for launch. This unique design consisted of plywood for the body tubing. At the 2018 Spaceport America Cup we launched again at the 10,000 ft COTS level. We had a successful flight and recovery of our entire rocket and payload, which was a huge improvement from our first year at competition.
