The New York State Community Commission on Reparations Remedies (NYSCCRR) is a state-established body tasked with examining the legacy of slavery, subsequent discrimination against people of African descent, and the impacts these forces continue to have today. Established by legislation signed by Governor Kathy Hochul on December 19, 2023, the Commission is charged with studying these harms and informing future recommendations. Public testimony and research gathered through this process help shape the Commission’s work and its approach to reparations for descendants of African Americans. Community members are encouraged to attend hearings, share their experiences, and engage in this public process. Learn more and find upcoming hearings at ny.gov/reparations.
