GlenWyvis Distillery
GlenWyvis will be the world's first 100% community-owned distillery. Built to bring distilling back to the Highland town of Dingwall, GlenWyvis has historic roots that stretch back to Ferintosh distillery in the 17th century. It was the loss of Ferintosh that Robert Burns lamented in verse, and the new distillery also honours two other local distilleries both of which closed in 1926 – Glenskiach and Ben Wyvis; the latter named after the iconic mountain that provides a dramatic backdrop for GlenWyvis. Built on the farm of Flying Farmer John F McKenzie, GlenWyvis will also be the first distillery to be 100% powered by renewable energy. Solar, hydro, wind and biomass energy are all combined to underpin the green credentials of this innovative craft distillery. Formed as a Community Benefit Society, GlenWyvis and its many members are now destined to play an important role in the social and environmental reinvigoration of this Highland town.
