Inserm Institute for Viral and Liver Diseases, University of Strasbourg
The Institute for Viral and Liver Diseases consists of a team of highly qualified principal investigators, hepatologists and liver surgeons with a long-standing track record in virus-host interactions and liver disease. One of our key strength is the full integration of basic, translational and clinical research and the establishment of strong collaborations and networks of excellence with leading experts at the local and international level. The institute has made major contributions in the understanding of virus-host interactions in the pathogenesis of liver disease and their translation into clinical applications including the development of novel preventive and therapeutic strategies. The aim of our research is to develop novel, cutting-edge programs to address the unmet medical needs in liver disease and liver cancer. These include the challenges of preventing the development and/or treating advanced liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma, the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide and the lack of effective curative treatment approaches for chronic HBV infection. We are also striving towards a brighter future through our exceptional mentorship and training programs for future leaders.
