Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES) IHES is an international fundamental research center. Fields of research include mathematics, theoretical physics, interface between mathematics and biology, research linked to high technology, related disciplines. A small core of highly respected permanent professors carry out cutting edge research in their field. They are currently: Thibault Damour, Mikhail Gromov, Laurent Lafforgue, Maxim Kontsevitch, Nikita Nekrasov. Of the ten mathematicians recruited by IHES since its creation, seven have received the Fields medal Around 200 each year from around the world, with different backgrounds and profiles; they have one characteristic in common: excellence. IHES is a key player of the famous French mathematical school.
