Jan Sahas
Jan Sahas was established in the year 2000 when a group of concerned individuals came together to address the issue of the deaths of a child labourer and two adults at a firecracker factory in Ujjain. Recognising the need for sustained regular intervention and a rigorous approach, Jan Sahas was formed with a vision for comprehensive systemic reform in the areas of forced labour and violence against women and children in marginalised communities. Over the years, the organisation has evolved a comprehensive framework of Prevention, Response, Rehabilitation and Systemic Reform to realise its goal of societal transformation.Today Jan Sahas is working in multiple states across India and carries out concentrated capacity building and advocacy efforts with state and civil society organisations. Impact: Our work enables us to have a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals & families. At this moment more than 7,000 changemakers are working towards social change across various parts of India. Sexual violence against women and children: More than 20,000 survivors of rape and sexual violence gaining support for access to justice and rehabilitation ₹4.3 crore compensation received by survivors from the government 722 survivors and their families receiving livelihoods support. Enabled 6,200 girls to leave caste-based commercial sexual exploitation, and helped prevent 5,400 girls from entering into sex-slavery Forced labour and safe migration: Enabled more than 46,000 women to leave the inhuman practice of manual scavenging Enabled 6,800 women to break free from bonded labour and provided rehabilitation support 1.5 Million migrant labour from North and Central India region are being tracked under safe migration project
