Every year, life science laboratories produce 5.5 million tonnes of plastic waste globally. 50% of this is single-use and to make matters worse, because the waste is deemed contaminated, it is sent for landfill or incineration. At labzero. we collect polypropylene-based laboratory waste and use this to generate recycled pipette tips. Once used, these pipette tips can be sterilised ready for reuse using our innovative and user-friendly, sterilising machine. In effect, our solution completely circularises the pipette tip economy, saving the scientist money and addressing the current pipette tip shortages in the wake of COVID-19. Most importantly though, it reduces the industry's enormous contribution to the climate crisis and sets us one step closer to making zero-waste laboratories a reality.
