Learn Disability Justice (Formerly Score A Friend)

Learn Disability Justice, formerly Score A Friend, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works in partnership with schools to dismantle ableism and advance the inclusion of people with disabilities by providing free digital Disability Justice education resources, professional development trainings, and extracurricular programs to K-12 educators. History: Score A Friend was founded in 2012 by Sarah Greichen, a 13-year-old girl in pursuit of her Girl Scout Gold Award. Sarah's twin brother Jacob is Autistic and the isolation from being in a segregated special education program left him without friendship or purpose. Sarah's original project goal was to find Jacob a friend by increasing the inclusion of students with disabilities in schools. The project resulted in a SAF Club Curriculum that could be replicated in other schools, a website to promote and deliver programs, and established SAF as a nonprofit organization. In 2019, Score A Friend (SAF) served as a disability inclusion youth leadership organization with $84,000 in donations, 18 programs in six states, a 15-member board of directors, and 40 staff and volunteers. The organization was growing, but not meeting impact goals to the fullest possible extent. In 2020, the pandemic brought SAF programs to a halt. Taking advantage of the downtime, SAF Identified programmatic inadequacies, while also identifying a spike in demand for e-learning and social justice education in schools. These challenges and opportunities presented SAF a unique opportunity to shift their business model and rebrand in 2021 to Learn Disability Justice.
