Martha's Farmhouse
Martha's Farmhouse is a family-owned country house in the Ugandan Countryside. It is open exclusively to guests looking to experience the slower and tranquil lifestyle designed to take the stress from everyday life. In 1949 our grandfather died of cancer, leaving our mother, Martha, a six-year-old orphan. He left her a piece of land that later, as a single mother of three, she did not have the resources to develop. When our mother passed away in 1999, she left this land to us, her children, and we have since worked to commemorate mum's devotion. We are now thrilled to introduce Martha's Farmhouse. As a family, we built the Farmhouse, named it after mum and surrounded it with a coffee, vanilla and banana farm. Martha's Farmhouse's vision is to tackle poverty sustainably across sub-Saharan Africa as a hospitality social enterprise. We are actively creating employment for rural youth, and we have fast become the largest employer in the village. We are also improving livelihoods in the local community and beyond by purchasing local produce and accessing services for the Farmhouse. We have witnessed children going back to school, getting medicine and having more to eat as a direct impact of the guests that come to Martha's Farmhouse. Our service helps those looking for a slower pace, families and groups in need of a time away and work teams a chance to bond, capacity build or space for that small off-site meeting. Located in Genda, a traditional village in Mukono district in central Uganda (an hour from the airport), Martha's Farmhouse offers high-end comfort and plenty of fresh, relaxing tropical gardens, a private pool, and glorious views. Our ambitions are high. We plan to continue offering the best quality for our guests and developing more destinations like this to transform people's lives.
