Offshore Transfer Systems Ltd
Developing a motion compensating platform for use on the crew transfer vessels that ferry workers from the shore to wind turbines during construction and maintenance, extending the safe operating weather window by 50% to over 300 days. The bow can move up and down 3 metres with the raised platform remaining stationary, allowing the worker to step across safely to the ladder. OTS's articulated platform moves independently of the vessel in roll, heave and sway with hydraulic rams keeping the upper platform stationary alongside the turbine. Forward protruding arms on base and platform locate around the turbine structure to keep vessel bow in position against wind / sea. Engine thrust pushes the upper platform against the turbine with friction keeping it stationary, reacting passively to vessel motion whilst the crew transfer safely. • Active hydraulics keep platform stationary • 5 degrees of freedom • Bow does not impact turbine • Allows vessel to absorb waves
