A joint venture between idatase GmbH of Frankfurt and NetXcel Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, phiot stands for physical internet through internet of things.\\Logistics has always played a vital role in global economy. Optimizing logistics processes is therefore a focused research topic concerning many institutions, corporations and countries around the world. One well-known project targeting a solution to this question is called "Physical Internet" which attempts to "transform the way physical objects are handled, moved, stored, realized, supplied and used, aiming towards global logistics efficiency and sustainability" . Its vision is to standardize the "encapsulation work, interfaces and protocols" so that "the concept of internet data transfer could be applied to real-world shipping processes". However, it requires a huge amount of time as well as research to reach that level of standardization. We at Phiot propose another approach that could still leverage the current shipping infrastructure without changing it much in the beginning. This approach will not only optimize current logistics processes but will also be easily adaptable as soon as a higher level of standardization becomes ready.
