SheDev, an initiative of TechScape (Pvt. Ltd), is the first-ever women-led and owned tech company of Gilgit-Baltistan. There was a need to create a safe and secure working environment for women to stand to their full potential in both personal and professional terms. Thus, the SheDev initiative was taken by TechScape, already established at the SCO Software Technology Park Gilgit, and dedicated to the development of the female segment. It is a platform that digitally empowers women, and provides them with opportunities to enhance and monetize their digital skills. The aim is to connect women to the digital, technologically advanced world, thus providing them with financial stability via atypical methods of learning and earning. Moreover, it is also a place for women to break stereotypes and excel in the field of technology. SheDev plays a major role in contributing to society. Keeping the socio-cultural provisions, the company offers a diverse and secure working environment to women while providing them opportunities to earn from the comfort of their home. An initiative that started with the induction of 15 women has developed spectacularly over the span of 4 months. SheDev now boasts 46 female employees who have been trained and provided employment. They are skilled across various digital platforms including but not limited to Web Development, Digital Marketing, IT Consultancy, and Mobile App Development. The learning of digital skills is crucial to development and improvement in the globalized world. It is evident that digital functions are gaining ground over on-ground work and the case for Gilgit-Baltistan is no different. Moreover, entrepreneurship has emerged among younger generations as a preferred earning platform despite connectivity issues in the mountainous terrain.
