Stuart M Grant Ltd (SMG) is the oldest and largest ornamental fish export business in Malawi. As a market leader, the company is determined to maintain its market position by improving its already existing high standards. The company's clients are all based in the US, Europe, Asia and the Far East. Germany and China currently represent the largest markets. The company exports live fish from Lake Malawi to Cichlid enthusiasts all around the world. According to Ad Konings in his book titled, Malawi Cichlids In Their Natural Habitat, 4th Edition, "No lake in the world contains such a diversified and distinctive community of cichlid fishes as Lake Malawi. The total number of cichlid species in the lake is now estimated at about 1000, and there is every indication that still more remain to be discovered". The farm facilities house about 150 to 250 species of these fishes at any given time. The fish farm located at Kambiri Point, South Senga Bay, Salima district has 212 glass aquariums and 30 fish ponds, located in the main fish house and 366 fish ponds located outside the fish house under shade netting.
