TET (ThorntonEducationTrust)
TET (Thornton Education Trust)) is a new charity created to advance education in architecture and urban design for children and young people. Our vision is a society where urban design and architecture is an inspiring and positive force improving the lives of current and future generations. Architecture affects everyone's daily lives, yet it is the one subject that is not embedded into our school education system. Creative subjects are excluded from the school curriculum, whilst young people's voices are excluded from discussions and decisions on urban design. We will achieve our mission through disseminating creative learning resources and research, and advancing good practice and shared learning between teachers, educationalists, built environment professionals and architects. Through this we seek to close the gap between architecture and education: to embed architecture in young people's education, and to embed young people in architecture. Our Inspire Future Generations programme is launching on 30th March 2021 with a discussion of how and why there is a need to create more opportunities for young people to engage in the built environment: yhttps://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_p4wv7w56RuiDJQAHqTOzKQ Coming up in summer 2021 is our Masterclass series, presenting built environment professionals discussing their approach to youth engagement in the planning, design and delivery of projects, how they have made a difference, and lessons learned. Later in 2021, the inaugural Inspire Future Generations Awards scheme will launch to recognise the work that educationalists, teachers and architects are doing to help children and young people benefit from architectural learning. Each year new categories will open, responding to a range of current issues that put young people's voices at the heart of the debate, and demonstrating their capacity and skills for creativity, teamworking, motivation, critical thinking and problem-solving.
