The HiPop Project
The HiPop Project is the art and design work of American visual artist Mike Leavitt aka ReMike. He lives two dreams making a living from both art and toys. ReMike makes fun stuff and he makes fun of stuff. His HiPop (pr. hai-pop) Project is basically pop art with a soul, marrying low brow and fine art with painting, sculpture, design and satire. ReMike's a latchkey kid of divorced baby boomers and Saturday morning cartoons, coming to age in two decades of Iraq Wars. He grew up with toys made in China by anonymous sculptors. So he likes pulling the curtain on the fourth wall and sculpting puppeteers behind the scenes. He thinks everyone's work consumes their bodies because he himself sculpts til his thumbs bleed. He's shown across 6 continents since quitting Brooklyn's Pratt Institute of Art in 1997 with a 4.0 freshman GPA. He's sculpted hundreds of action figures from The Art Army on. ReMike's a 40 year-old nerd making dolls in his basement, articulating the voice of a generation in need of action heroes.
