Te Aka Mātauranga Matepukupuku - Centre for Cancer Research
Te Aka’s reason for being is simple. Cancer is the number one cause of mortality in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is something that touches all too many of us, whether personally or through whanau and friends. Te Aka is a 'front door’ for cancer research, and a connector. We connect the goodwill and resources of philanthropy with incredible research projects. We connect research with patient care by bringing together researchers and clinicians. We view cancer through the lens of the patient journey, and our pillars include developing the cancer research workforce, reducing inequity and promoting transdisciplinary cooperation. As one of the University of Auckland’s seven flagship University Research Centres, we are delivering research support structures to help break down silos, foster research that is both world-class and locally relevant and support excellence and equity of health outcomes. This is where Te Aka finds its place - as a unifying force to drive science forward for the betterment of all those whom cancer will affect.
