Treasures of Innocence

.Treasures of Innocence (ToI) is a non-profit organization committed to improve the lives of children through participatory and empowerment processes in the state of West Bengal, India. It helps the children to dream big and stand with courage, curiosity, confidence and creativity. We dream of a world where children from every strata of society have a level playing field to play on irrespective of their social, economic, cultural, intellectual and physical environment and attributes. Every child has a right to good quality education which will develop his/her mental faculties to take on the challenges of life on his/her own terms. Being taught the school syllabus well is a necessary but not a sufficient condition to be educated. Education for us includes creativity, awareness, core life skills and confidence. It is in this ‘SYLLABUS PLUS' approach that Treasures of Innocence positions itself. Our SYLLABUS PLUS approach teaches children not only the 3 R's but also knowledge of the world, appreciation of the environment, ability to think, act and speak with creativity and confidence. We work on the premise of creativity based learning where children are not passive listeners but active doers and thinkers in the classroom. As we work with children, each child teaches how to make our approach and methodology more learning friendly and we continuously calibrate our approach. At the core of our approach is that Creativity at the Heart of Leadership.
