University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service (UVICES)
The mission of the University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service is to be a dynamic, flexible organization dedicated to delivering quality, relevant programs most needed by the people of the VI. AGRICULTURE & NATURAL RESOURCES -Increase staff knowledge: local & federal agricultural -Support government agencies sustainable agriculture concept & production practices -Increase farmers knowledge & other interested residents on the importance of sustainable agricultural practices -Increase the number of farmers selecting alternative crops and/or adopting sustainable agricultural practices on their farms -Develop & expand training of appropriate sustainable agriculture concepts awareness among Cooperative Extension Service, Agricultural Experiment Station, & USDA-Farm Service Agency administrators/staff -Promote collaborative research & extension outreach programs 4-H/FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCE -Build strong families, youth & communities -Address many critical issues relating to families, youth & communities -Provide research-based information in life-coping skills -Offer workshops, short courses & demonstrations: Consumer Education & Personal Financial Management, Food & Nutrition Education, Parenting, Marketable Skills (i.e. Computer, Clothing Construction) -Considerable focus on outreach to limited resource residents COMMUNICATIONS/MEDIA & TECH -Use eXtension.org, Ask an Expert & Social Media -Offer Local & Distance Learning courses -Document & Preserve Info Weekly "What's Going on @UVICES Radio Program on FM 97.3 and streaming live from wuvi.uvi.edu) eXtending Knowledge; Changing Lives
