Veterans Prostate Cancer Awareness
VPCa was founded in 2017 with a mission to (i) promote prostate cancer awareness among active duty military members and veterans; (ii) to educate veterans on proper care and treatment alternatives for prostate cancer; and (iii) promote the adoption by veteran health care providers of the latest technologies available for the treatment and cure of prostate cancer. We provide educational resources to multiple Veteran Service Organizations, the Veteran Healthcare System, and work with industry to promote new technology discoveries related to prostate cancer. Our aim is to communicate with the 19 Million Veterans in our country, and specifically the 9 Million that receive healthcare through the VHA system. There are currently over 489,000 active cases of prostate cancer in the VHA system, 16,000 metastatic cases with 15,000 new cases every year. Veterans should be encouraged to screen for prostate cancer annually starting at the age of 40, and have an annual physical examination including a minimum of a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test.
