Wageningen Economic Research
Wageningen Social & Economic Research is a research institute under Wageningen University & Research, formed on January 1, 2025, through the merger of Wageningen Economic Research and the Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation. It operates within the Social Sciences Group, focusing on fair and sustainable agricultural and food systems. The institute aims to ensure sufficient, healthy food while securing fair incomes for producers, leveraging the expertise of over 400 employees. The institute provides services in policy and strategy development, economic and behavioral analysis, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and capacity building. It supports governments, NGOs, and businesses in creating sustainable food policies and applies data-driven models to understand agrifood economics and consumer behavior. Additionally, it facilitates partnerships across sectors to implement systemic changes and offers training programs to enhance global agrifood governance. Its outputs include research reports, policy recommendations, and economic models tailored to food systems, addressing challenges in food security, climate resilience, and social equity.
