My family Al Suwaidi’s is intrinsically linked to the history of pearling era in the Gulf, dating back to 12th and 13th centuries, and belonging to the Julfar dynasty, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. My ancestors carried on with pearling for generations leading finally to the 20th century with my grandfather Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al-Suwaidi as being one of the last remaining pearl divers of the Al Suwaidi legacy. My memories of my grandfather are part of this magic, recalling how, when I was a little boy of 8 years old, my grandfather would take my hand and together we would walk to the shore’s edge where my grandfather would disappear into the sea. Even though pearl fishing had long finished in the late 1970s, my grandfather was still drawn to the sea, he felt he belonged to the sea; soon the energy and solace found from the ocean became part of my spirit and quest too. “I feel my grandfather has given me the responsibility of bringing back to these shores nature’s greatest gift, the pearl, for future generations.” The pearl farm in Al Rams is on the most prominent place on the sea in Ras Al Khaimah and as mentioned in the beginning its historical relevance. I took over the challenge of cultivating cultured pearls in the same sea that gave us natural pearls for many centuries. The farm has so far produced more than 100k pearls and some of my best quality pearls are adorned in Jewelries produced by well-known International designers. The result is cultured pearls of highest quality of various different sizes, colors, and luster. The world will witness the rebirth of Arabian pearls with a modern twist cultured pearls of the Arabian seas, The Suwaidi Pearls! Suwaidi Pearls is launching new initiatives that would focus on the histories, journeys, and progress of the Arabian pearls industry. Retracing the ancient pearl routes, reconnecting with the historical birth and presenting the modern world the reincarnation of the Gem of the Arabian Seas!
