As a Tier 3 Technician, I provided support for user PCs, servers (physical and virtual), backup systems, NAS devices, M365 and Azure. Additionally, I focused on documentation as it plays an important role in building consistency and knowledge across the team. Alongside my Tech duties, I filled the role of a Solutions Architect; providing clients with Microsoft 365 and Azure recommendations that would suit their needs. I enjoyed working with clients to gather requirements, discover existing infrastructure, research solutions, and discuss options before putting together an official recommendation.
As the IT Support Manager, I was primarily responsible for managing the Service Desk and their performance. I supported the Service Desk by providing current process documentation, coaching, training, problem resolution, collaboration with other IT groups, HW/SW end-user support during busy times, ticket system management and license management. Outside of managing the Service Desk, I was responsible for all end-user IT related procurement, standardization, policies and training. Leading up to the EXPO Centre being transitioned to EEDC on January 1st 2018, I was responsible for the procurement, configuration, setup and deployment of all end-user hardware to ensure business continuity of the Centre.
During this time, I was 65/35 split between SharePoint administration/development and end-user support. SharePoint workflows, webparts and forms were wildly popular as the company moved towards becoming paperless. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the business units to design SharePoint solutions that would add efficiency and automation to repetitive tasks. Working with webparts, master pages and page layouts, was a rewarding use of my HTML, JavaScript and XSLT skills. Also, I was responsible for the migrations from SP2007 to SP2010, SP2010 to SP2013 and finally SP2013 to SP Online/O365.
As a Systems Administrator, I had my hands in everything: Exchange admin, SharePoint admin, Windows Server admin, infrastructure admin, networking, end-user hardware/software support, Active Directory/Group Policy, Blackberry Enterprise Server, etc. The IT team was an incredibly large 3 people, so work silos were not a luxury we could afford.
I was hired to be the first point of contact for all end-user hardware/software support and training and was positioned to be the face of IT due to my friendly and social nature. I was thrilled to be working for a company that promoted personal connection and relationships. These core values would be my foundation for the next 15 years at EEDC.
