Led an organization to deliver special projects for Amazon Fresh. Built a lean startup culture, built and launched rapid experiments, learnt and iterated on the product definition.
Led a team of 11 SDEs that built a unique grocery experience for Amazon Fresh customers. This includes the delivery windows and availability that drive the browse and cart building experience for Amazon Fresh.
Led and managed a team of passionate SDEs focussing on the fulfillment experience for 3P sellers for AmazonFresh, and Prime Now. This included the effort to seamlessly expand our platform from 1 city (Seattle) for Amazon Fresh to more than 10 Amazon Fresh cities, and 50 Prime Now cities globally. Grew a team of 4 engineers to 8 in less than 2 years. Constantly innovated with new technologies within and outside of Amazon.
Responsible for building the software and systems required for 3P customer order fulfillment globally across the following 2 Amazon businesses AmazonFresh and Prime Now. Worked on Restful services innovating with AWS resources, like SWF (Simple Workflow). Worked closely with senior engineers, and trained new SDEs on the team.
Worked on Alexa Service on Amazon Echo. Designed and developed cloud side restful services to fetch data from external services. During this time, worked on designing and developing the integration of Alexa Service with Google Calendar to enable a seamless personal experience for managing customers' calendars. Concentrated heavily on optimizing these services. As a senior engineer on the team, I led several customer impacting features, mentored and on-boarded new team members.
Worked on the first party applications pre and post launch of Amazon Echo. Designed, developed and led cloud side application domains for the Alexa Service. Implemented the dialog interactions for weather, calendar, sports and voice cast features for the Alexa Service on the Amazon Echo device. All these features were available in the initial launch of Amazon Echo, and provided a magical customer experience allowing a seamless interaction. Innovated in multiple dimensions to meet the organizational goal of providing responses in less than a second.
Worked on Shared Control System for Autonomous Wheelchair. Collaborated and developed an algorithm for collaborative control of an assistive semi-autonomous wheelchair. The approach was based on a statistical machine learning technique to learn task variability from demonstration examples. The algorithm was developed in the context of shared-control powered wheelchairs that provide assistance to individuals with impairments that affect their control in challenging driving scenarios, like doorway navigation.
Business Intelligence - Data Warehousing Created analytical tool to generate graph database for Table/Column level dataflow lineage for SQL jobs at Amazon scale. Built a UI in GWT (Google Web Toolkit) to visualize the dataflow and dependencies of these jobs. Ramped up in less than a month, and delivered the project in ~3 months of development. This was widely used by the clients of the data warehouse team and was further extended after my internship was complete.
- Implemented a navigation algorithm for a mobile wheelchair to setup an environment for autonomous shared control. - Helped in setting up the new research lab for research related to Assisted Autonomous Rehabilitation Robots.
