Aj Tully's current jobs
Alongside my work at Stannah whilst on furlough, I also started a part-time role at Foxcraft Racing helping prepare historic race cars for the season and providing trackside support at test days and race events. Working with rare and often delicate cars has allowed me to show off my attention to detail and high standards of work, striving for perfection and settling for nothing less. Ensuring work is carried out to the highest standard means reliability is extremely high and therefore gives the cars a better chance of achieving points, class wins and overall wins at the events attended, and safety also is extremely high with well-maintained and regularly checked components far less likely to mechanically fail and cause danger. Duties include regular stripping and thorough cleaning of components, regularly purging and bleeding brakes, trackside support including maintenance during pit stops, monitoring lap time splits and providing drivers with information via a pit board and ensuring correct scrutineering has taken place.
(Via Personnel Selection) During the COVID-19 pandemic and due to pubs being closed under national lockdown conditions, I was furloughed from my full time job. After contacting an agency I was placed at Stannah working for the quality team and joining a project reacting to a drop in supply from outside sources. My role was to perform a 100% check on wiring looms made in-house against schematic drawings to ensure that quality was good enough to send to the production line and fixing any issues with looms that didn’t meet the expected quality standards. This involved, using electronic test and measurement equipment. This role has also allowed me to show my problem-solving ability and my understanding of engineering techniques, and also my ability to work well under pressure and prioritise well in order to meet targets.
Having worked here part-time for 2 years whilst saving for my wedding, I had the opportunity to step into the General Manager role when vacant converting to a full-time position. Drawing on my previous hospitality and customer service experience I feel I really flourished as a manager. Leading a team of 20, this role touches on every aspect of running a business, covering staff rota’s, training and development, business operating figures, stock control, shift planning and much more. I feel my professional approach to people management and organisation had enabled the team to run in an extremely lean yet efficient way, which meant that the G&D was a successful business prior to COVID.
Following on from a successful time at Racing Green, I wanted to further expand my classic car knowledge a little closer to home and work with a well-rounded variety of classic marques.
After qualifying from BCoT (Basingstoke College of Technology) with National Diploma level 2 and 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair my duties have continued at Racing Green Cars, working both independently and with my mentor whilst undertaking jobs not previously experienced. I became more involved in the race car preparation and attended regular race events on the HRDC and FISCAR calendar, supporting 2 cars and planning the logistics of getting the vehicles there. I was involved with day to day operations of running the garage, organising vehicle movements, MOT’s and sorting customer invoices and payments. In my role I utilised a range of vehicle test and maintenance systems such as tyre changers and balancers, specialist diagnostic software, air-conditioning systems, compression testers, pressure testers and emissions testers. I also used a wide variety of workshop tools, including welding equipment, sheet metal bender, guillotine, hydraulic press, all manner of air tools, and precision measuring equipment including a Vernier calliper, micrometer and DTI gauge.
