I am the Course Director of the Veterinary Public Health (Food Hygiene) course responsible for planning and delivering the course to the 4th year students that includes: • Meat, milk, fish and egg hygiene, • Zoonoses and control plans of infectious diseases, • Food microbiology, • Food safety management systems, • Waste and environmental management, • Animal welfare in farm, during transport, markets and at slaughter. I am the Module Director of the Final Year rotation in VPH, Epidemiology, Microbiology and Pathology for 5th year students of the BVM&S curriculum responsible for planning and delivery of: • The overall rotation, • Meat hygiene practical classes, • Animal welfare tutorials, • Abattoir visits with the students. I am a Lecturer of the “Food Chain and Food Security” module of the MSc One Health at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. I am a Lecturer in “Foodborne Zoonoses” of the BSc (Hons) in Infectious Diseases, ‘Emerging Infections” at the School of Medicine, University of Edinburgh.
My main duty were to work as technical advisor within a team of five Official Veterinarians (OV) working in red, white and wild game abattoirs and cutting plants. I was responsible for ensuring that the quality of service provided to our costumers was meeting and exceeding the specification and ensuring to protect public and animal health and welfare. Other activities are: • I was a Leader Auditor responsible for setting up a monthly audit schedule, checking audit reports, ensuring follow up visits are carried out within the timescales and reporting to the line manager on a quarterly basis. • I carried out official audits of Food Business Operators (FBO) food safety management systems and I prepared concise written reports to government bodies like Meat Hygiene Service (MHS) and Food and Standards Agency (FSA); as a consequence of my auditing activity. I was responsible for building up and strengthen on a daily basis work relationships with our costumers (MHS, FSA and DEFRA authorities) in order to deliver always the best service. I have been involved several times in joined commissions set up to produce and follow up action plans to react to emergency situations. • I was responsible for a performance assessment of my team members, helping them on a daily basis to solve any technical issues raising and to develop their professional skills; • I was appointed as super recruiter responsible for identifying and interviewing talents.
Added to the Official Veterinary Surgeon (OVS) duties, I was given managerial tasks, heading a group of 13 OVSs. Main responsibilities were as specified for Team Leader.
