Dr Alex BARTLE MB BS (Lond), Dip.Obst.(Auck), FRNZCGP. MMed (Sleep Medicine), (Syd). Alex was a GP in Christchurch from 1978 until 2007, and in 2000 began a sleep medicine practice, The Sleep Well Clinic, alongside his General Practice. In April 2007 Alex left General Practice to concentrate on developing the Sleep Well Clinics in Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington. He now has additional clinics in Tauranga, Whangarei and Nelson. The Sleep Well Clinics are designed to offer assessment and treatments for all sleep disorders from Snoring and Sleep Apnoea to Insomnia, from Shift Work to children’s sleep difficulties and the Parasomnias. In 2009 he completed his Masters Degree in Sleep Medicine through Sydney University. Dr Bartle is on the Education Sub- Committee of the Australasian Sleep Association, and has written articles on sleep disordered breathing (snoring and sleep apnoea) for that organisation. He has also recently written articles on sleep disordered breathing and Restless Legs Syndrome for the ‘Doctor’ magazine. Dr Bartle is an inaugural member of the Asia Pacific Paediatric Sleep Alliance, and has been a co-author of a number of papers on children’s sleep. He was also a co-author of the NZ Guidelines for sleep disordered breathing in children. Dr Bartle regularly presents to international and national conferences, and in this last year has presented to conferences in Jakarta, Perth and Seoul. He runs seminars, especially on shiftwork management, to industry, and for the past three years has presented to GP’s at their CME conferences on all aspects of sleep medicine. In addition Dr Bartle runs seminars and talks to special interest groups in New Zealand.
