I support the Head of Compliance & MLRO in leading day-to-day operations of the compliance function, acting as a senior representative with regulators, exchanges and internal stakeholders. My role spans compliance monitoring, risk assessments and regulatory reporting, ensuring robust governance and alignment with FCA, MAS, NFA and global exchange requirements. I will take lead roles in regulatory projects, advise on trade and conduct issues, deliver MI to the board and strengthen compliance framework while enabling business growth.
Handpicked to initially manage and implement Trade and Communication Surveillance system to ensure regulatory compliance for OTF launch. Promoted within 3 months to Senior Compliance advisory role with a larger remit of supporting the Group Head of Compliance.
Recruited by this software sector-focused investment manager with AUM of £330M, I was charged with the management of trade execution and all front office functions, including regulatory compliance, best execution and transaction reporting aligned to TR1, RTS28 and MiFID II. I drove a strong focus on efficiency and cost reduction to counter negative tailwinds from a period of decline in UK small-cap equities that was exacerbated by the COVID crisis and the subsequent wider negative economic outlook for the UK.
I was brought in to spearhead growth for the new outsourced trading business for fund managers that was launched to complement the firm’s well-established middle office outsourcing service. Tasked with the professionalisation of front office systems and the provision of dealing capabilities, I drove growth for the front office business, recruited and trained juniors, growing the team from eight to 12 specialists.
Appointed to offer buy-side perspective for this leading Canadian capital markets and banking business, I helped the firm through a period of rapid change with the introduction of MiFID II regulation that required research unbundling and adaptation to the new realities of the separation from Europe following the Brexit vote. I partnered one other Trader in London, driving growth in our coverage of European and Asian clients wishing to trade North American equities with the firm.
Initially a consultant, I was offered a permanent role within my first month with the remit to recommend and install a new order management system. My role then expanded to wider processes and procedures and, as business increased, to overseeing trade execution. Fund size leapt to $50M across two mandates within three months, rising quickly to $300M and growing continuously thereafter to a peak of $2bn as I played a central role in enhancing operations and trading infrastructure.
