Radiation related health effects are a major risk in pursuing space exploration. Humankind is aiming at exploration beyond low earth orbit and space travel far from Earth or for long durations are particularly at risk because of radiation. In order to help inform guidelines about radioprotection in space and health risks for astronauts, we are conducting a mixed methods systematic review incorporating human studies, animal studies and in vitro studies. I search available publication databases, select relevant research articles and extract relevant data on non-neoplastic CNS effects of different types of IR to humans, animals and in vitro samples. The data will be then synthesized and analyzed statistically, to assess whether exposure to mixed space radiation environments will pose risks to CNS.
