UTOPIA is an NGO that aims to identify and promote effective leverages of change in the light of current and emerging environmental and health challenges related to plastics and its pollution. Our project "a sea named plastic" is an expedition into 17 regions in 8 countries on each side of the Atlantic. The objective is threefold: to carry out an international analysis of the roots, impact and solutions to plastic pollution, to produce educational web-documentaries for world citizens and to raise awareness among local stakeholders (students, officials, entrepreneurs) about plastics and circular economy. This expedition is the achievement of the Plastic Encyclopedia project led by UTOPIA for 2 years, a transversal and citizen study on the causes and consequences of plastic pollution. An expedition aiming to enrich the Encyclopedia by including the impact of the globalisation and the internationalisation of pollution and by referencing the solutions found. Our ambition is to provide a global and cross-disciplinary diagnosis of the plastics crisis, to warn the international community of the eco-systemic risks posed by our dependency to plastics, and to invite citizens of all nations to be enlightened actors of the transition through the transformation of businesses and sustainable consumption.
