After working full time while attending school full time for two years, I decided it was time for a short break. I traveled through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile via motorcycle in order to recover from pushing myself so hard for such a long time. I learned salsa dancing in Quito, jumped off a bridge in BaƱos, ran out of gas in the Peruvian desert, cleaned up playing roulette in Lima, and got altitude sickness in Cusco. It was absolutely fantastic.
At Conbraco, I created database-driven web sites written in both the Laravel and CodeIgniter PHP frameworks. I delivered presentations to large groups of employees to introduce new web initiatives. Developed iOS application to display PDFs based on barcode scans. Developed Python application to transfer sensitive employee data to a new web platform for the HR department. Worked with the Marketing Department to create video content for company Youtube channel.
HeartSpark is a local speed dating company that my partner and I built from scratch. I handled the web development, marketing, graphic design, and customer service. Along with my partner, I set direction for the company and looked for strategic growth opportunities. Our secret sauce was software that I created that allowed us to match participants that liked each other. It parsed a spreadsheet with the match data, created the e-mails, and send them out. The process took 4 hours to perform manually for about 20 participants, but my software cut that down to about 30 seconds total.
Created database-driven HTML5-compliant web sites. Sites were based on both the CodeIgniter PHP framework and straight PHP.
Responsible for overhauling the PHP codebase for Book The Best web site. The majority of my time was spent overhauling the administrative area, making it easier to use for the people creating profiles on the site. I then updated the public-facing side so that it would play nicely with the backend changes I had made. Used PHP, Javascript, MySQL, CodeIgniter, and JQuery.
