As a senior member of the Baruch Computing & Technology Center (BCTC) management team, I participate in strategic planning and policy development for all areas of information technology, with a particular focus on end-user support including the help desk, student lab support, user education programs, hardware break fix, software and networking support. I maintain responsibility for systems planning, analysis, implementation and maintenance, local area networks, software and hardware, contingency and capacity planning and quality assurance. With such a large and diverse student body, as well as more than 2,500 faculty and staff, a critical aspect of this position is my ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with all three schools, numerous student associations, external organizations and vendors concerning technology services, equipment and support. I have focused on increasing our outreach and communications in an effort to promote awareness and use of resources available both on and off-campus. Additionally, I have increased the training provided by BCTC staff to provide students, faculty and staff with opportunities for acquiring progressive computer literacy skills through workshops, e-learning and one-to-one assistance.
The Director of Information Technology was a senior level position within the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), responsible for strategic planning as well as directing the planning, support, installation and maintenance of information technology projects (ERP, LAN/WAN, and Help Desk). With oversight of a $1.25 million annual budget and a full-time staff of 20 employees, I collaborated with almost every academic and administrative office throughout the university to provide excellent, innovative technology services. As Director of Educational Facilities and Security I oversaw building/classroom construction and renovation projects focusing on physical space, HVAC, electrical, networking, security, voice, data, video, wireless and audio/visual equipment, as well as the installation of university-wide building security (video surveillance, entry access and alarm systems). Selected accomplishments: • Built a state-of-the-art information technology center, providing vision and executive direction, budgeting, staff and integration/user relations with the University. • Assisted with the oversight and administration of the University’s Help Desk (call center, walk-in help desk, hardware break/fix and classroom support). Moved Help Desk under internal management, resulting in 20% (more then $200,000) annual savings. • Implemented a customer service program that resulted in a 75% reduction of complaints, while improving communication and response to support calls. Achieved 97% customer satisfaction rate by July 2004. • Lowered total cost of ownership by more than 45% by standardizing desktops, laptops and printers, initiating performances standards and negotiating vendor contracts.
