Having designed and built out Host Ireland's broadband network, I now focus on building out our team of engineers with one goal : to provide the best customer experience available anywhere in the telecoms industry. I've developed a very special team of home grown talent, which we're very lucky to have. With hands on learning (the Aristotelian principal!) and mentoring being a key part of the role on a daily basis we have gone from strength to strength, constantly delivering on our mission to engineer products that exceed expectations and provide the best customer service in the telecoms industry. We're rewarded with an NPS of over 80% and people interacting with our NOC via the helpdesk rate our engineers, and their experience, at an average of 9.6/10, sustained since we started measuring in 2019, right up to this YTD in 2021. I've brought the best of my considerable experience managing software development to our telecoms products : - Existing development resources were pivoted to work on our own complete digital transformation, everything that can be automated has been, from contract signing through to provisioning connections on the network. - Services to the network are provided by containerised microservices with a fully automated CI/CD pipeline. - I implemented the SCRUM framework to run our multi-disciplinary NOC, development and operations teams project delivery around BAU. We've developed a comprehensive range of online solutions on the strength of our unique, purpose built and wholly owned network. We've built a reputation for being the fastest installer in the industry with lead times of less than two weeks for enterprise level connectivity. This is due to our enabling culture and drive to do what we do better than anyone else in the market. We're achieving that objective every day.
I managed all customer software development, from initial contact with the customer, technical pre-sales and requirements gathering and specification, through to engineering the final product using a combination of in-house and remote resources. I oversee operations throughout the organisation and am still get my hands dirty, often being the support call of last resort. Projects completed of note include services to the media, health, wholesale, manufacturing, sport, retail (bricks and morter and eCommerce), sport and medical industries. I scaled an online B2B platform we had developed from turnover of €10Ms and 100s of users to circa €1B turnover and 1000s of users. This project received an Eir Spider Award for the Best B2B Technology in 2017 and the Tech Excellence Award for Best Private Sector Project in 2018. I recently designed, built and deployed a new wireless ISP infrastructure serving County Dublin and surrounding areas and am responsible for growth and maintenance of same. Key design principles were : - IPv4 efficient - Meshed infrastructure - multiple routes over independent backhauls to any end user - Creation of out-of-band auxiliary network on which major services can be accessed (to remotely manage power to equipment for emergency power-cycling, for example) even with key backhauls down. - Multiple outbound routes, managed by path quality - High quality, business-class bandwidth across every segment of the network. - Alternative outbound routes for lower quality - "recreational" bandwidth. - Highly Scaleable, out AND up. Recently oversaw the design and building of a new data centre in Dublin City centre. Currently working on cloud infrastructure and various virtualisation technologies.
Created a new department which had to be staffed and procedures/policies put in place. Deployed new E.R.P. / E.P.O.S. systems to retail stores throughout Ireland and provided support and maintenance services for same. Implemented a number of labour saving, information enhancing services throughout the company headquarters. The department was self-financing by the time of my departure.
