This project seeks to develop two systems for the treatment of patients with pulmonary diseases: • The POMS (Patient Oxygen Monitoring System) is intended for the detection of oxygen supply disconnection, either on an oxygen mask or cannula. •The ROMS (Remote Oxygen Monitoring System) is a device able to detect the quality of the oxygen provided by an oxygen concentrator and to transmit useful information to a central computer. Such information tracks the patient's history and is stored in a cloud system through a web-based application. The two devices are intended to be combined to get a single system that can ensure safety during both home and hospital treatments. Responsibilities: • Market analysis and research. • Electronic design and implementation. • Testing and verification. • Software development: device programming and communication protocol design. • 3D printing of enclosures and accessories. • Cost, size, and power optimisation. • Contact with customers and stakeholders. • End-user field trials. Tools/Methodologies used: • Allegro OrCAD for electronic design. • Embedded C language and Arduino IDE for firmware development. • MATLAB for running behavioural simulations. • Autodesk Fusion 360, Ultimaker Cura and PreForm for 3D modeling and printing.

Title: Master's Thesis Project - Laboratory Experience
Period: Mar 2018 - Feb 2019 (11 months)

Smart wearable wrist ECG with BLE interface A smart device was designed to detect the ECG signal from the two arms. The purpose of the project was to achieve a properly working device and an acceptable quality ECG. My role thus was to improve the performances by reducing the final board size and increasing the resulting ECG signal quality. The device was programmed in C language to acquire a 10 seconds signal, process it by means of denoising algorithms (developed in MATLAB), and transmit the filtered signal through a Bluetooth interface to a proper mobile application. The final board was simulated with PSpice and designed in the Orcad environment. Responsibilities: • Research the most common medical devices for ECG detection. • Front-end analog design, prototyping, and testing. • SoC and PCB design. • Signal processing algorithms implementation and simulation. • Microcontroller programming: firmware development, Bluetooth protocol definition. • Data collection and analysis. Tools/Technologies used: • Microprocessor launchpad development kit, laboratory equipment, and PCB assembly instruments. • Cadence OrCad PCB editor, Capture CIS, PSpice, C language, Code Composer Studio, MATLAB. This experience allowed me to gain high-level knowledge on: •    Analogue and digital design, signal processing methodologies, and firmware development. •    Electronics laboratory instrumentation, i.e. oscilloscopes, desktop multimeters, power suppliers, wave generators. •    PCB design instruments, like the pick and place machine, the stencil mate, and the PCB oven. •    Prototyping equipment, like microcontroller development kits.
