Designed a novel differential power processing architecture using QSW zero voltage switching DC/DC CUK converter topology for photovoltaic (PV) applications. Designed and simulated an efficient and compact QSW DC/DC CUK converter power stage using magnetically coupled inductors to improve the power conversion efficiency, PV maximum power point tracking, and power density using MATLAB/Simulink and LTspice. Designed the gate drivers, voltage regulators, current sensors, and voltage sensors for the proposed system using OrCAD Capture. Upon validation of the proposed system's applicability, a 4-layer PCB was designed and tested using Cadence Allegro. With proper maximum power point tracking execution, the power conversion efficiency reached 99% for higher irradiation levels (low shading factor) and 96% for lower irradiation levels (high shading factor). The 3.5"×3.5" board met the small size requirement of the design.
