At Mary Magdalene Community Services I am the AB 109- Felony Probation Program Supervisor. We work in partnership with the San Joaquin County Probation Department in helping to reduce recidivism. Establishing a relationship with our client and helping them with employment, job training, schooling, housing, and family reunification is what we focus on. A.G.E Sports is a youth sports program I started. It revolves around my passion with working with the youth and basketball. The basketball program is called Dreamers Basketball Academy. What is Dreamers Basketball Academy? Dreamers Basketball Academy focuses on basketball as a dream. Along with education, it is a dream that can take a child to many places in life if they give basketball their full effort. When most kids’ pick up a basketball, they dream that they are Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, Steph Curry, or Giannis Antetokounmpo; and while it is a wonderful thing to dream a dream cannot become reality without the basics. Dreamers Basketball Academy takes the opportunity to work with all levels including dreamers as young as 3 -years-old. We have found that dreamers as young as 3-years-old can grasp the concept of putting the ball in the basket, footwork, following directions, and developing their balance and coordination. What is the Goal? The goal is to do all we can to maintain consistency. The perfect scenario is to maintain a coaching relationship with the dreamer and watch them grow and mature until one day they are ready to go on their own and capture their dream. Why? There was a time when dreamers could not wait for the school day to be over to run outside and be active. Now, dreamers run home after school and could spend hours on the PS5 or I-Pads. The reason why we are here is to help dreamers look forward to being outside again.
