Responsible to drive client data needs through New Product Introduction and Software Development.
Invigorating another quality assurance team in philosophy, role understanding, processes and tools, I have contributed to build up the process, interdepartmental relationships, test documentation structure, test strategy, defect raising processes, and automation geared towards a straight forward continuous delivery model of software releases. My team is responsible for a combination of manual and automation test of new features, as well as performance and exploratory testing employing Selenium IDE, Webdriver, Jmeter, and well constructed lightweight test cases. Derek Smith's past jobs
Mission Guru is an innovative SaaS tool used in the events and planning industry. I joined Mission Guru and have redesigned the interface, written the system requirements, and maintain our product backlog. I have also setup the test suite, server, operations, and lead the software design team in ongoing feature development and maintenance. I am a key contributor to the company identity, and ongoing company objectives. We have successfully released our product, and have a growing customer base. We have been approached by startup accelerators, Microsoft, and Muckerlabs amongst others to apply for their upcoming winter sessions.
With success at Salira, I joined my previous manager to give Cortina Systems' QA team a working structure, process, identity, and train them about the role SVT plays in Engineering. Our division released an PON ASIC chip with turnkey software. Once again, I defined the test structure, statistically qualifying the quality assurance levels, while meeting very difficult system requirements from key Chinese, Korean, and Japanese customers such as Huawei, ZTE, CNC, CTC, NTT, and others. The SVT team consisted of many product lines, and I ran 3 test teams, and an automation team, while also leading the FAE customer defects work. During this time, being a foreigner, I contributed in many ways, writing a lot of documentation including system requirements, ISO documentation, and a 500+ page users manual for a highly technical OLT chip.
Salira EPON products and the company were purchased by Hitachi, and I was the first employee hired. I designed the entire test structure, and all processes around R&D and maintenance releases for OLT, and ONUs system software and GUI interfaces. After thoroughly testing our existing products, and working with China and Japanese (Hitachi) engineering teams to release new hardware, I moved to Shanghai to build the QA structure from scratch. In Shanghai, I designed and built our engineering lab, systems, processes, role, and proceeded to set an example of Engineering in China. I hired 15+ employees, and managed 3 testing teams, and an automation platform to support the ongoing EPON and SPON product lines for both North American and China markets. My team was voted best company team 2 years ongoing and continues to be a work horse for QA under Hitachi's umbrella. I also played key roles in customer presentations, training, exhibitions and technical consultation.
Senior Test Engineer of Ethernet, and TDM services through manual test, and automation.
Worked as a lead test engineer for DWDM Metro Ethernet and SONET equipment during its pre IPO phase. I designed test strategies, and wrote test cases, reviewing with all engineering departments to ensure quality benchmarks. Designed and built full fiber optic DWDM systems in UPSR, BLSR configurations while leading test efforts for power management and optical transient responses through the VGA amplifiers and VOA power equalization software control. I had also tested FEC, OSPF and Ethernet over SONET. My documentation and organization played a major role in setting up the foundation to our test documentation and release management. In this key role, I was promoted to Lead Engineer.
I worked here as an intern to reconstruct and improve their fiber optic communication channels at the telescope, and in their base camp.
I worked at Nortel for 3 divisions. I performed link budget testing their MOR Long Haul DWDM amplifiers, equalizing and measuring link loss. I worked for their Global Initiatives team documenting the Operations team for their DMS100 switch. I worked for the Nortel Wireless team, writing automation scripts in Labview.
