Edmit is an award-winning and mission-driven team passionate about solving the student debt crisis and empowering students and families to make smarter financial decisions about college and student debt. Our product consists of software and educational content as well as human advising, and is distributed to high school families at no cost through financial institution sponsorships. VegFest, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that advocates for plant-based and hosts large events like New England VegFest, one of the largest food festivals of its kind. Each year the festival features nationally-recognized authors, speakers and food activists. In 2019, it celebrated its 10 year anniversary and welcomed 12,000+ attendees, 140 exhibitors, and hundreds of volunteers. In the years since I founded the organization, it has grown into a financially-sustainable organization with a full-time executive director, a team of key organizers, and thousands of members and supporters.

StartSOLE is an iOS and web application used by teachers in the United States, Colombia and Egypt to plan, facilitate, and evaluate lessons. The tool ensures that lesson plans meet state education standards and helps teachers document student learning. Led major technical initiatives at the company, primarily using NodeJS, Express, Handlebars, ES6 Javascript, React, and AngularJS. * Wrote the flagship StartSole web app that is used by tens of thousands of educators. Teachers use the app to implement inquiry-based, student-centered learning in their classrooms, improving students’ job-readiness in the modern economy. * Established organization-wide coding best practices, such as continuous deployment (using AWS and CircleCI), code reviews, and pair programming. * Contributed to strategic direction of the organization, including identifying new funding streams, acquiring new users, driving international adoption, and garnering donations from large tech companies. * Played an integral role in forming a user ambassador program that gathered and implemented feedback from educators, resulting in new features in the app.

Mozilla’s Open Web Fellowship program is a prestigious international leadership initiative that brings together top technology talent and civil society organizations to advance and protect the open web. * Built web applications for advocacy organizations and spread ideas about using tech for social change, including: Internet2016.net, a campaign site to put internet-freedom issues on the national agenda, “Stuffer”, a web tool to empower supporters to file formal FCC comments in support of net neutrality, and Printernet, a webapp for printing and mailing literature to supporters at scale. * Led internal trainings on how to implement open source best practices, using tools like Github. * Spoke internationally about tech-policy and emerging forms of digital activism. As a fellow at Code for America, I collaborated with the Mayor's Office in Denver, Colorado to release municipal data in open standards and to build new web apps that help residents better engage with their city services. * Designed and built a public API of adoptable pets in city shelters, then created a twitter bot to share pictures and info about dogs & cats. Redeployed in 21 major cities, including Boston, Austin, San Francisco, and Minneapolis. * Built StreetSweep.co, a web app that notifies residents of upcoming street sweeping in their neighborhood. Presented at the Code for America Summit in collaboration with the Chief Data Officer for the city of Denver. Animal Outlook is dedicated to exposing cruelty to farm animals through undercover investigations and using high-impact corporate campaigns to drive policy change. Directed technology decisions at the organization, modernized the design & technology stack. Designed & developed campaign microsites that have inspired millions to take action for animals. Youth Empowered Action Camp is a summer camp for young people aged 12-17 who want to change the world. This intensive program provides young leaders with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and community-support to become change makers in their schools and communities. The camp attracts young people who are passionate about a wide range of issues including environmentalism, LGBT issues, animal protection, human rights, immigration, civil liberties, women's rights, and poverty. Campers who complete the program often go on to start student groups, found non-profit organizations, volunteer at community organizations, create new legislation, get involved in activist campaigns, and organize events. I've been a staff person at 6 sessions in the San Francisco Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and in New England. My role at the camp involved leading workshops, writing curriculum, and recruiting campers & staff, and mentoring campers in the year after they attend.

Services for New Americans is a branch of Ascentria that focuses on refugee resettlement & human trafficking issues. The organization provides direct services to international refugees who are resettling in the United States. It also advocates for the legal & political rights of refugees. My role: • Coordinated technology operations for an office of 30-40 staff • Web development • Taught computer science courses • Consulted with clients who have advanced degrees and helped them create technical resumes and apply for jobs in engineering and science

The Artichoke Food Coop was a member-owned and operated food cooperative in Worcester Massachusetts. The coop offered organic, fair-trade products at very affordable prices. My role in the coop varied over time. I was a board member, I staffed a regular shift, I was involved in wholesale ordering and inventory and I participated in meetings about direction of organization as well as day-to-day tasks.

Data Visualization in National Science Foundation-funded computer science research lab. Investigated and implemented new methods of visualizing large amounts of data. Worked on a tool for interactive visual exploration of multivariate data sets. Artificial Intelligence: Worked on an educational tool that uses AI techniques to tutor Massachusetts students.
