Edward Deitch's current jobs
I am a senior producer, editor and writer for the NBC Nightly News, both weekday and weekend editions (with which I've had a relationship spanning more than two decades under Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams and Lester Holt). This includes serving as a senior producer on weekends for Lester Holt and his successors, Jose Diaz-Balart and Kate Snow, planning coverage and managing many of the stories on Saturdays and Sundays, and serving as senior producer and writer on a regular basis on the weekday program. Among other things, I am known as one of the best script doctors in the business and for a decisive yet inclusive management style. I deal with correspondents and producers throughout the United States and overseas, as well as correspondents from CNBC and The Weather Channel who contribute to the Nightly News. I know how to listen to anchors and also how to make them see my point of view. I am completely comfortable in the control room, speaking to correspondents during their live shots and adjusting the program on the fly. I have a natural feel for the "look" of the broadcast, both in coming up with the right visuals and the right words for story titles and other graphics. I also oversee all award submissions for the program, a process that has resulted in a long list of Emmy, duPont-Columbia, Edward R. Murrow, Sigma Delta Chi and other awards, including Columbia University's John Chancellor Award for Richard Engel in 2013. In December 2009 I was asked to return to NBC as the principle show writer for Weekend Today and served in that role through September 2010 when I was asked to return to the Nightly News.
