Project funded by UNDP. • Project Lead, Conservation Scientist and Landscape Specialist to prepare a socio-ecological landscape-scale baseline assessment and strategic plan for the Knuckles Conservation Forest and World Heritage Site, Sri Lanka. The assessment is to enable UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme to make strategic fund allocations. The assessment was primarily based on the COMDECKS methodology, developed under the Satoyama Initiative. • Team Leader and Chief Scientist of a spatial planning analysis of conservation priorities in Sri Lanka to develop a ‘road map’ to implement the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, and to integrate the conservation priorities into the National Development Plan. The project was funded by the Secretariat of the Convention for Biodiversity (CBD) and the Japan Biodiversity Fund. • Team Leader to train district-level land use planners on integrating biodiversity conservation priorities into land use plans in the Kala Oya basin, Sri Lanka’s third largest river basin in northwestern Sri Lanka. The project was implemented jointly by IUCN-Sri Lanka and the EFL, under the UNDP’s GEF-funded Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA) project. The project area includes the headwater area of the basin, and extends into the coastal mangroves and offshore coral reef (Bar Reef Sanctuary).
