I am a London-based established freelance journalist covering all aspects of the art world, from museum developments to art market news. I have contributed numerous articles to the Financial Times and have also written for The New York Times, Vogue, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Times, The Independent, The Independent on Sunday, Apollo Magazine, Museums Journal and Frieze. For a list of my stories, go to Authory. I am the author of 'Censored Art Today' (Hot Topics in the Art World, Lund Humphries/Sotheby's Institute of Art), which was published September 2022. Harriet Lloyd-Smith at Wallpaper writes: "Harris’ superbly researched book poses critical questions about the trajectory of free speech, free expression and ultimately, who gets to decide." My second book in the Hot Topics series, 'Towards the Ethical Art Museum', which examines ethical issues in the museum sector from funding to decolonisation, was published August 2025. Prior to pursuing a freelance career, I was deputy editor at The Art Newspaper, the art world 'bible', where I commissioned pieces from a pool of 25 contributors worldwide (for the museums section, features, diaries and op-eds). Now chief contributing editor at The Art Newspaper, I regularly contribute articles for its art market, museums, features and news pages. Every day, I write exclusive art world stories for the TAN newsletter, garnering more than a million hits last year; I also co-founded The Art Newspaper Book Club (for an author interview, go to YouTube). My Masters qualification is in Romance Languages and Literatures (Italian/French, University College London/Birkbeck College). My doctoral thesis compares the works of artist Umberto Boccioni and poet Blaise Cendrars (Royal Holloway, University of London, 2020). I speak fluent French, Italian and Spanish. I have taught at Kingston University, UK, and presented a four-week online course for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia (2026) on art and censorship.
