"All progress takes place outside the confort zone" As a head of purchasing at a lean and complex Italian company, first challenge faced was to generate enough information from ERP and filed records to have a clear image of how much and where we have allocated spending. I issued local procedures matching good practices from abroad and internal guidelines, this along with issuing contract with key suppliers, first outcomes: • Cost reduction in engineering resins driven by market knowledge in -17.30% in 2016 Vs 2015 figures. • Validation of alternative suppliers in different commodities intended to have a better leverage in commercial negotiations. • Purchasing value consolidation reducing by nearly 10% number of active suppliers. Achievements: 1. Savings in 2016 for 136K USD representing a 94.5% over budgeted direct material spent targeted on 2.1% . 2. By negotiations carried out on 2016 as of mid of May 2017, we have recorded savings for 97.5K USD 3. Definition of policies and standard templates for their local use. 4. Launching of two new programs with two different OEM´s, including material planning for pilot trials and ramp up phase. 5. I had developed and established cost models that allow the team to deal more efficiently and professionally cost up front suppliers.
