In 2007 I started The Wheeler Street Corporation to truly reach out to young people across Birmingham and the West Midlands, using tailor-made youth programmes. In August 2016 we changed our name to Wheeler Street Young Entertainers and Entreprenurs In Action. The key reason for this was to focus on the Performing Arts and all it embodies. Our street engagement now seeks to discover and develop young people who have a desire to be the best they can be. We offer a range of diversionary activities such as football, music recording and DJ workshops, beauty sessions, urban dance, photography and video, as well as issues based work around sexual health, forming respectful relationships, avoiding territorialism and how to get the best out of people in authority. We are often able to refer young people onto mainstream youth provision, education and training, the business community and drug and alcohol services. We also work with a number of partners such as the NHS and Local Authorities.
