Hannah Cowin's past jobs
Being based in the centre of Amsterdam, gave me the opportunity to experience working and living in a new country. Whilst I was there I worked closely with the designer and owner Tisja, helping with designing her latest collection. I thoroughly enjoyed helping to make up the new pieces often working to narrow deadlines. Being able to reverse engineering a number of garments in Tisja’s older collections by reviewing the finished pieces to then develop patterns from. Making up many of the garments in house allowed me to the whole process from design to end garment from start to finish. I managed the stock in the atelier and managed the production garments for sale and dispatch. I worked with and collaborated with the photographers and models for photoshoots, I also modelled some garments myself! I enjoyed working independently at Tisja’s at the start of the summer, being the only intern but I also felt I thrived when I worked as part of a team when new interns came in being trusted to show them the ropes. By the end of the internship it felt very natural when liaising with different collaborative photographers and models.
Whilst working for Studio Pia, I gained an invaluable insight into the starting stages of a luxury lingerie business. My roles included, pattern drafting, grading, lace placement, sewing, costing and creating a new bralette sold as at the end of the summer season from the otherwise waste lace. I enjoyed finding a solution for the pattern cutting that got the most out of the lace while still adhering to the fit and Pias sizing chart. I also had input into the new collection which was being designed and developed. Creating various samples and pieces as part of a team.
