Hans Schreuder's current jobs
After seven years of supervising final exams Industrial Product Design in 2018 I started coaching 6 students towards their final exams. This means supervising the projects, visiting them at the company and supporting their design process. Since then I got involved more and more into the whole education of our design students. I now work in a variety of projects from 1st years assignments to mentoring graduates. In 2020 I have officially earned my BDB teaching degree so now I can get into ‘real’ teaching too, where my focus will be on critical design thinking and conceptualising.
Together with SpringtimeLabs, a system to gain more control over bicycle parking in our cities is being developed. Public space is limited, more and more bicycles are in our streets, while around 20% of the available parking-spaces is being occupied by bikes that are rarely used (eg. orphan-bikes). Enforcement is slow, time consuming and expensive. More grip on this task seems an attractive perspective for many municipalities. The BikeBubble is a virtual space, where bicycles with a chip are automatically checked in and out. This results in a full administration of numbers, storage time and locations. Bikes are virtually monitored in the BikeBubble, which significantly reduces the risk of theft.
Together with Marko van der Vegt a year long program of seminars and workshops was arranged to investigate what the City of Arnhem can do to get more people on bicycles. Compared to other Dutch cities of its size Arnhem has a relatively low share of bicycle use. A number of insights, ideas and proposals was created that can be used by the Municipality for its future policies. A report can be found at www.stadswerkplaatsfiets.nl (only in Dutch).
From 2015 onwards I work as an independent consultant for businesses and governments in the field of bicycle use, mainly on bikesharing and parking. Years of experience combined with an extensive network and a critical vision on the use of technology make the proposition of hansschreuder.net quite unique. Governments can consult on recent developments in technology and businesses on developments in society and how to contact governments.
