I am currently celebrating my 30th year with GTB Components, since becoming its Managing Director in 1991. At GTB Components we know the powdered metallurgy process inside and out and every one of our team members works very hard to produce the PM components and sintered parts which are our bread and butter. Within certain industries, securing those top quality PM parts is a necessity, simply because using the powdered metal process is especially effective when producing the parts vital to the automotive industry in particular. The reason for that is simple. Sintered parts manufactured using the powdered metallurgy process – or PM components as we refer to them, are better than wrought steel parts because it is simple to make them with different tensile strengths and to be twice as strong as their wrought steel equivalents. These are some of things I talk to potential customers about when I’m wearing my client acquisition hat. But finding new business and singing the praises of powdered metal-made parts is not the only part of my role as Managing Director. It probably is the part I enjoy the most – it is very rewarding to secure another client for GTB Components – but I also play an active role in our human resources and finance management. Another element to my role is quality control and buying - which work hand-in-hand with each other. Although an extremely important part of why we do what we do is that we genuinely believe in helping other customers by creating PM components using our powdered metallurgy process, we never rest on our laurels. If the raw materials we use to make the powdered metal aren’t of the required quality, the sintered parts we produce just won’t measure up – and I know as Managing Director that clients would soon notice.
