I was a recipient of a National Science Foundation STTR award to develop a new natural dye and binder for textiles.
Noon Design Studio was the premiere natural and vegetable dye production house located in Los Angeles, CA. We dyed apparel and home goods for the trade and our own line with only natural materials such as plants, roots and vegetables. NOON serviced over 100 brands from Los Angeles and New York. I developed all of the IP for new colors and higher performing natural dyes as well as managed customer relationships. The company was featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Martha Stewart Living, AATCC magazine, Vogue, Elle and many other publications. At the end of 2015, the dye house was sold to an existing customer who is currently using it for their own brand's apparel.
I developed, implemented and taught a new textile science curriculum in their Fashion Program. I created new courses with hands-on lab work; taught classes averaging 35 students about material science in textiles including fiber selection, yarns, substrates, dyeing and printing, chemical and physical properties, and end of life uses and consequences.
