I work on the coolest part of AWS - Amazon Linux, the distribution that powers Amazon, AWS, and tons of our EC2 customers. Our 90-person team builds the Amazon Linux Kernel, OS/Userland, and the creation and distribution of our images and repositories. We also build a container-optimized OS, Bottlerocket, which is open sourced on Github!
Jason Cook's past jobs
Lead an engineering organization responsible for information security compliance and reporting, asset discovery, and asset/configuration management. Discover and track all of Verisign's technology gear through its entire lifecycle. This includes making sure that all gear is running up-to-date software, which can be a tough nut to crack.
Manager of the Application Delivery Team. Provide software build and delivery automation processes and services. Basically, make developers lives a little easier by way of build automation and pipelines. Ran services like Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, Teamcity, and Jira.
Systems Engineer - Monitoring. Designed, built, and supported Verisign's operational monitoring platform and did some conference talks about it. Hacked around a lot on rrdtool, and created a really cool distributed metrics storage platform for Verisign's network infrastructure. Wrote a bunch of code in Perl, Go,and some Python. Led a team of a few engineers along the way as well.
Manager of the day-to-day technology operations of a startup airline. This includes system and network operations, end-user support, telecom, and everything in between.
Ran high-performance, large scale web servers for AOL and it's joint-venture partners. Hacked around on some code to automatically build out web infrastructure (which was pretty new and awesome in the early 2000s).
System Administration contract work for Capital One, iWon.com, Sapient, Globix, and others. Mostly Sun/Solaris.
