Sales Representative of laboratory supplies for UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University

Performed the role of a scientific laboratory supply distributor for a territory that encompassed UNC-Chapel Hill research, UNC Hospitals, Duke Clinical, Wake Forest University and Wake Forest Baptist medical research. A strong life science background allowed me to engage in conversations with researchers about their focus, which lead to a larger market share of each lab and the campuses as a whole.

Performed a vast array of both laboratory and field techniques in the pursuit of my Master’s work on population genetics of peripheral populations. Convinced both the State of Washington and the Tulalip Indian Tribe for a collection permit of their natural resources (reptiles), while engaging tribe members in natural history outreach. Performed a wide variety of laboratory techniques from extracting DNA from tissue samples, RT-PCR, and library prep for high-throughput SNP sequencing. Proficient in a R for statistical analysis as well ARLEQUIN and STRUCTURE as well as ArcGIS.

Human resources contact between employees and the corporate office, as well as an administrative assistant for the store manager. Duties entailed conducting all new hire paperwork and training, coordinating leave of absences and time off for employees, ensuring training compliance was met for the store, ordering supplies, cash office duties such as preparing deposits and balancing the vault, and preparing reports for the store manager.

Main duties included staining and quantifying macrophages from ruptured AAA’s, performing implantations of mini-osmotic pumps with angiotensin to induce AAA’s, image the progression of the AAA’s through using the Vevo 770 micro imaging ultrasound machine, RT-PCR, and dissection of the aorta from small transgenic mice. Breeding and maintaining a transgenic mouse room of over twenty different strains, genotyping mouse strains, performing unilateral ureter obstructions, immunohistochemical staining, Sirius Red staining, Masson Trichrome staining, and confocal microscopy. Maintaining a database with thousands of data sets, injecting mice with DOI, keeping records of the mice, assisting in western blots, preparing and assisting in sacrifices, collecting samples from multiple brain regions, assisting with microdialysis, and keeping track of thousands of samples frozen for future tests as well as ordering for the lab.

Served as Peace Corps volunteer in a small village in the Republic of Armenia. Worked with local schools and youth organizations on educating local youth about environmental issues and organizing local trash cleanups. Worked with local government to develop an environmental policy for the town.
